Russian Security Guard May Make It In Hollywood

Wednesday, February 17, 2016 4:00:38 PM America/Los_Angeles

As a Security Guard, You must be flexible, and ready to respond to different scenarios every day. For one such guard in Moscow, his resemblance to one of the biggest movie stars on the planet has presented some unusual requests and opportunities: Posing for pictures with tourists who think he looks like Leonardo DiCaprio. Security Professionals know they are the frontline of any organization, and are expected to provide excellent customer service.

So, when patrons visiting his museum ask for a picture, this guard has been happily obliging. It's not often a security professional can serve in two capacities for the organization he works for, but in this instance, the building stays safe, and the marketing department stays happy.

10,000 Additional Security Officers Standing By For Pope Francis' visit to Mexico

Wednesday, January 27, 2016 4:12:13 PM America/Los_Angeles

Mexican officials have announced they intend to deploy 10,000 police officers for Pope Francis' visit to Mexico in February. The Pope's trip is expected to draw over 2 million people, with an estimated 300,000 attending Mass in Mexico City. What presents a significant challenge for security forces is the Pope's destinations are in areas known for extremely violent activities because of drug cartels. The Pope always travels with one of the most respected security organizations in the world, and given his personable nature and fondness for interacting with crowds, this visit will present an enormous challenge for security forces.

Autonomous Drones Aid Private Security

Friday, January 8, 2016 2:16:58 PM America/Los_Angeles

The Japanese security company Secom will begin using autonomous surveillance drones to monitor suspicious cars and individuals on the grounds of factories, stores and other work sites. Secom is one of the pioneer companies in the world that is using autonomous drones for private crime-prevention services. This will not put any security professional out of a job, and if anything, will increase the need for highly trained individuals. The drones are designed to fly at a low level, and when the on-site sensors detect a suspicious person or object, the drone will approach and begin capturing images that will then be relayed back to an organization's security monitoring system. In the case of the suspicious object being a car, the drone will photograph it, and record the vehicle's license plate. From that point, a dispatch unit can send individual guards to investigate and detain suspicious persons if necessary.
